Our advocacy work has made a mark on the FDA’s budget for 2021. If you recall last summer there was an amendment proposed by Rep. Biggs that would have not given the FDA any funding for the Draft Guidance. In lieu of passing the amendment, a Congressional delegation met with the FDA to discuss concerns with the Draft Guidance which the FDA later rescinded and revised in October 2019. Thank you to all of your efforts, the FDA, President, Vice President, and Congress received combined 144,000 messages regarding the revised Draft Guidance. Then in last month’s appropriations bills passed to fund federal agencies including the FDA, the Appropriations Committee included the following language in the bill’s accompanying report:
The Committee urges FDA to consider the views of commenters, including patients, proponents of homeopathy, and other stakeholders, in its approach to finalizing its revised draft guidance entitled “Drug Products Labeled as Homeopathic Guidance for FDA Staff and Industry.”
